I was an academic transplant nephrologist and intensivist who left academics to prevent chronic disease in the rural underserved with a focus on high risk cardiovascular disease, diabetes, chronic kidney disease, obesity, Covid19, Post-Covid long hauler symptoms, opioid and substance abuse treatments. I have considerable success using simple nonjudgemental approaches in a variety of locations including appalachia and rural central Virginia. I am involved with local and international disaster and humanitarian relief work through remote area medical and the health wagon as well as other programs overseas in the past. I am passionately engaged in developing a state of the art online obesity prevention and treatment program while treating patients in both the acute care and emergency settings both locally and wherever medical disasters occur. I enjoy networking and collaborating with leaders in the wellness and fitness world as well as those in industry, academics, private sector, pharma, government and other affiliated aspects to develop unique multidisciplinary solutions to fight obesity and prevent chronic diseases. Since 2020, I have been focused on the treatment and prevention of Covid19 cases and particularly in monitoring long haulers with Post-Covid 19 symptoms. Most recently, I led a team of psychiatrists and RNs as an accredited provider to communities afflicted by opioid addition, focusing on prevention and treatment using Sublocade: injections that continuously release the medicine buprenorphine all month at sustained levels, with no real daily ups and downs. In 2021 I launched Odysseus Medicine, a direct patient care private practice that focuses on high quality health care with a holistic approach that aims to involve the patient as a team member towards longterm healing. I provide easy access, over fourty years of diverse experience in the practice of Medicine and a commitment to the physical and emotional wellness of my patients.
